Sports That Do Not Interest You
by minimus inone sport that i think is lame is pro hockey.
it's the only sport where players are expected to beat the crap out of each other.
it's not as much about scoring but how many punches were thrown!

3/15 WT " Do Not Deceive Yourself "- WT's Excuses for No Armageddon
by flipper inwith the new " overlap generation " theory that the wt society is pushing onto rank and file jehovah's witnesses since last year this article i found really heavy hitting in the jw version of the wt.
the wt society is leaking oil in that confidence is low among jw's in not really buying into the " generation overlap " theory as many younger jw's are exiting the organization.
so what better way to try reeling members back in by giving them an article entitled " do not deceive yourself with false reasoning " !

I agree, this has to be the wackiest article I've seen in the rags lately. I had the same gut reaction when I read this - they are DESPERATE at the 'abandonment of preparations' (their analagy) for some event that was scheduled (by them!) to transpire decades ago...and this is the best they can come up with to try to infuse some 'anticipation' into the preparations (code for PREACHING, PREACHING, and more PREACHING).
Thinking about all the flurries of activity at my place before I have guests, if I understand that they may be delayed (in fact coming, just coming a little later than expected), you better believe I will put down my dust rag, floor mop or whatever I've been doing in a flurry and take a well-deserved BREATHER prior to their arrival, so I can greet them in a very relaxed, and glad-to-see-them demeanour.
A WRONG VIEW OF THE TIMING of the divine purpose could lead us to lose sight of the importance of our spiritual activities and become sidetracked
with personal interests. To illustrate, imagine you are expecting guests. Anticipation of their visit may lead to a flurry of
activity as you attend to necessary household chores related to their stay. However, then you receive word that your visitors are delayed. Will you
abandon the preparations ?"
Their illustrations SUCK! If they were working on "illustrations to fit material" they would get a big fat W for 'work on'. The rank and file are EXHAUSTED but cannot be allowed to rest for fear the publishing empire may become redundant.
I cannot fathom how 6 million plus 14 million associated (if these figures are correct) do not see through this manipulative BS, but I was one of the consumers of this tripe for well-nigh 40 years...
Good thread!

Big Love versus Big Armageddon
by streets76 ini've been enjoying "big love" on hbo for the past few years.
(for those who don't know, it's about the life of a mormon polygamist and his family in utah, usa.).
seems like the mormons, even without officially sanctioning polygamy, can go toe-to-toe with the jws in the wackiness department.. so why does mormonism, as a religious movement, seem more acceptable (than jws) to the mainstream, and thus more successful?.

Oh drats - I thought you were talking of Timothy Freke's Big Love...I didn't know there was a show about Mormons called that.
I believe Big Love is the way of the future - not Big Armageddon

OOPS sorry, edited to add - didn't mean to hijack your thread...

Welcome New Chapter!
Fantastic first post, would love to read more. Your fifth paragraph really REALLY resonated with me, especially the part about constant inventory (great phrase) - anyhow, I did about 40 years of that - ENOUGH!!!!
Twenty years. Twenty years I lived with purpose, and with a global family, and with love, and acceptance. But it was also 20 years of guilt and gossip and constantly second
guessing myself. It is only now that I have peace. I don’t have to spend so much time looking inward and picking at my flaws and trying to always make myself better. Don’t get
me wrong, this is a good thing to do in the proper dose. But it’s terrible to be in a state of constant inventory, vigilantly searching for the weeds to yank out of my heart.

A Concerned Elder Speaks
by Franklin Massey ina lot of talk has centered around information dispensed at the recent km schools.
many brothers feel there is a "tightening up" taking place.
i had a recent experience that you may find interesting.. after the meeting i was working with our cobe on some congregation tasks when out of nowhere he said, "have you looked up any extra information about higher education since the km school?

"It's like they WANT fewer elders and servants."
I'm beginning to think this is what all the recent changes have been implemented for - to wake the majority up and have them leave on their own accord. A lot cheaper than having to answer to all those that stick around until the WBTS closes shop, which shouldn't be too long in coming now. A perfect storm is brewing - tax changes in country after country/pedophile scandals/disfellowshipping/human rights abuses etc. Billboard adverts/everything will come spilling out of the closets soon - to the point that remaining Witnesses will start being embarassed to be associated with this religion. If you can get the majority to leave before that pitiful moment, the fallout will be less severe. MENE MENE TEKEL PARSIN and all that.
Ok, that's my 2c

BOE LTR PDF Nov 17- Notation made to ks10
by yknot in(( hardcopy link of boe ltr pdf : http://www.sendspace.com/file/1gncdo ))... in my best 'theocratic' voice trying to mimic a service meeting conductor (giggles) ..."if you have acrobat you can insert this behind the other boes in the ks10 pdf, or if not consider downloading and keeping it in the same file as your ks10 for future need to know..... i chose to 'highlight' what i thought might be of interest to the forum in the below transcript but of course it is not limited!.
to all bodies of elders.
re: letters of introduction.

Meeting Junkie No More
Much fine direction on the subject of letters of introduction has been included in the Shepherding textbook. For example, paragraphs 30 and 31 of chapter 3 deal with letters of introduction when elders and ministerial servants move. Paragraph 22 of chapter 7 deals with letters of introduction when a publisher with judicial restrictions moves. Paragraph 2 of chapter 10 deals with what should be sent when a disfellowshipped or disassociated person moves. And paragraphs 20 and 21 of chapter 12 provide updated direction on leuers of introduction when a known child molester or an accused child molester moves.
This is all so confusing. What they really need is a handy pull-out chart to spell out what paragraph and what chapter deals with what so that someone has a handy reference.
I notice there's no reference to letters of introduction when an obese/old/crippled/young/transgendered/fill in the blank person moves, for example.
Truly ludicrous.
